Our estimate of how close this job is to decisions about what protein a business sources, specifies, buys and serves. How we score

Why this role matters

How close this job is to real sourcing and menu decisions.

This role sits inside procurement at a food business, but as described it works on manufacturing partner selection, commodity monitoring and sustainability reporting in general terms. Nothing in the advert names meat, dairy, eggs, seafood or plant-protein categories, so there's no lever here that reaches supplier standards for a specific category today. The value is what it builds: real exposure to supplier onboarding, benchmarking manufacturers, and commercial decision-making inside a food company's procurement team. That's a credible route toward roles where category and supplier-standard decisions shape sustainability, sourcing quality and the protein mix, but this specific seat isn't there yet. Treat it as a stepping stone rather than a lever.

Where this role can take you

What this job teaches you, and the jobs it can lead to.

What you'd build

  • Supplier sourcing and benchmarking
  • Manufacturing partner relationship management
  • Commodity market monitoring
  • Cross-functional project coordination
  • Sustainability reporting exposure

Where it can lead

  • Procurement Manager
  • Category Manager
  • Senior Procurement & Supply Chain Manager

Roles like these typically hold formal sign-off over supplier standards and category buying criteria, giving more direct scope to shape what standards are written into contracts.

About the role

All About Food Limited is hiring a Procurement Executive based in its Central Manchester office, reporting to the Senior Procurement & Supply Chain Manager. The role sits within the Procurement & Supply Chain function and works closely with Technical, Supply Chain, Finance and Commercial teams, as well as manufacturing partners, logistics providers and suppliers across the UK and Europe, with travel for supplier visits, trade shows, manufacturing site visits and industry events. Core responsibilities include identifying, assessing and benchmarking third-party manufacturers for existing and new product development projects; driving supplier selection and onboarding activities; building relationships with manufacturing partners, co-packers and logistics providers; monitoring market conditions, commodity trends and supplier developments to support commercial decision-making; maintaining accurate supplier, pricing and manufacturer information in company systems; identifying project risks and communicating issues; supporting selection and negotiation of project-related suppliers and service partners; building awareness of sustainability legislation affecting packaging, products and supply chains; coordinating sustainability reporting requirements including environmental and customer reporting obligations; and reviewing existing processes for efficiency improvements. Candidates should bring experience in procurement, supply chain, FMCG, manufacturing or operations, with commercial decision-making ability, natural curiosity about sourcing and manufacturing, ownership and accountability, strong organisational skills across multiple projects and stakeholders, relationship-building and constructive challenge, analytical skills for turning market data into recommendations, resilience under changing priorities, a continuous improvement mindset, and an interest in sustainability and legislation. Full UK right to work is required; no visa support is offered. The advert does not state a salary, contract length or specific work-arrangement pattern beyond being office-based in Central Manchester.

How to position yourself

The language that works with hiring managers for this kind of job.

Frame your interest around commercial risk and supply-chain resilience: understanding how supplier and commodity decisions affect cost, quality and continuity is exactly what this role rewards. Build procurement vocabulary (CIPS-style commercial and contract terms) and start learning supplier-standards and sustainability-reporting frameworks, since the role explicitly touches sustainability legislation and reporting obligations.
