One-to-one coaching for people who are serious about food system transformation
The job board is free and always will be. But a job board can only point you to jobs. It can't help you get one, or help you once you're in, and that's where it gets hard.
We're building a programme for a smaller group of people who've decided this is the path for them. It combines one-to-one support to get you into a job with real influence over what food businesses buy, and a peer network of people doing the same thing in other businesses.
It isn't running yet. We're designing it and raising the funding now. Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't commit you to anything. It helps us shape the programme around the people who want it, and it shows funders there's real demand.
What we're planning to include
- Working out which job to aim for: Not every influential job suits everyone. We'll look at your background, work out which routes are realistic for you, and be honest about which are years away rather than months.
- Building the credibility employers look for: We'll look at the gap between where you are now and what these adverts ask for, like Sedex and SMETA, commodity knowledge, food carbon skills and procurement language, and find the quickest honest way to close it.
- Applications and interviews: How to write about your motivation in a way a commercial hiring manager will respond to, and how to answer “why do you want this job?” honestly without sounding like an activist.
- A peer network once you're in: Hardly anyone offers this. Getting the job is half of it. The other half is being the only person in the building who thinks the way you do, with no one to ask what to raise and when. This puts you in touch with people in similar jobs.
- Staying in touch afterwards: Your first influential job isn't the end goal, and we'll keep supporting you with the moves that come after it.
Who it's for
It's for people who believe in the idea behind this: that more can change in the food system from inside the businesses making sourcing decisions than from most jobs campaigning from outside, and that it's worth giving years to, not months.
That means being comfortable keeping your values to yourself while you speak the language of business, being the only person in the room who thinks the way you do, and making practical compromises. It suits people at any stage: early in their career, changing careers, or already in food and wanting their work to count for more.
It won't suit everyone, and we'd rather say that now than waste anyone's time.
What happens next
