Why this role matters
Where the work sits relative to real sourcing and menu decisions.
This role sits inside the beef supply chain that feeds one of the world's largest fast-food companies, working directly with the farmers, producer groups and processors who raise the cattle. The lever here is farm-level sustainability initiatives - the practical programmes that get rolled out to producers on climate resilience, environmental outcomes and long-term farm viability - and someone in this seat helps decide which initiatives get built and scaled across Europe's beef supply. It's not a role that sets welfare standards or buying criteria directly, but it does put you at the table with the people who supply beef to McDonald's, building exactly the relationships, livestock supply chain literacy and sustainability programme experience that could carry into a role with more direct standing over specifications or supplier requirements later. For someone serious about the long game on farm animal welfare, this is a genuine foothold inside a major beef supply chain rather than a lever you'd pull on day one.
About the role
FMG Global is a strategic sourcing and supply chain partner dedicated exclusively to the McDonald's system, specialising in the global procurement of beef and pork raw materials and operating across North America, Europe, APMEA and Latin America. This European Sustainability Manager role, reporting to the Global Sustainability Director, will lead the development and implementation of practical, farm-level sustainability and resiliency initiatives across the European beef supply chain, connecting McDonald's priorities with supplier and producer action to improve farm economics, environmental outcomes, climate resilience and long-term continuity of supply. Key responsibilities include leading FMG's European sustainability and farm resiliency strategy, translating customer priorities into practical, measurable action across the beef supply chain; building and strengthening relationships with processors, suppliers, producer groups, farmers and industry stakeholders throughout Europe; identifying, developing and scaling initiatives that improve producer viability, climate resilience, environmental outcomes and long-term supply continuity; supporting the measurement, reporting and communication of farm-level sustainability outcomes, including opportunities to reduce Scope 3 FLAG emissions; and representing FMG with customers, industry organisations, NGOs, researchers and technical partners to advance collaboration and innovation across the supply chain. The employer is looking for someone combining agricultural expertise, sustainability leadership and strong relationship-building skills, who understands livestock supply chains and enjoys working directly with producers and industry partners. Experience in agriculture, beef production, sustainability programs, food systems, or supply chain management is valued, along with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple countries and stakeholders. In the first year, success looks like establishing FMG's European farm resiliency roadmap, building relationships across the beef supply chain, launching sustainability initiatives with suppliers and producers, and delivering measurable progress against McDonald's climate and resiliency priorities. The role is full-time, based in London preferred but flexible within Europe, and involves international collaboration with colleagues across Europe, North America and Australia. The advert notes professional development opportunities and flexible working arrangements.

How to position yourself
The language that lands with hiring managers in this kind of role.
Frame your interest around producer viability, climate resilience and supply chain continuity - the language this advert uses throughout - rather than welfare, since that's how FMG and McDonald's are positioning this work. Build or highlight commodity knowledge in beef/livestock supply chains, Scope 3 FLAG emissions reporting, and stakeholder engagement across multi-country agricultural supply chains, as these are the credentials the advert names directly.
