Our estimate of how close this job is to decisions about what protein a business sources, specifies, buys and serves. How we score

Why this role matters

How close this job is to real sourcing and menu decisions.

This role sits close to the machinery of supplier due diligence: SEDEX, SMETA and BRCGS audits, retailer compliance requirements, environmental and human rights checks. Someone here would help decide what gets flagged when a supplier falls short. But Manor Fresh's supply chain, as described, is fresh produce and agriculture, not meat, dairy, eggs or seafood, so nothing in this specific seat currently touches those categories. The real value here is what it builds: fluent, hands-on experience with the exact standards and audit language that govern supplier assurance across UK retail. Someone who spends two or three years mastering supplier assurance in this setting is well placed to move into a responsible sourcing seat at a business buying meat, dairy or seafood, where the same skills bear directly on the standards suppliers are held to, and on wider questions of sustainability, labour conditions and animal welfare. Treat this one as the training ground, not the lever itself.

Key terms to include in your CV and cover letter

What this employer is asking for, in their words. Applications are often screened by software looking for exact phrases, so if these describe your experience, use their wording.

How to position yourself

The language that works with hiring managers for this kind of job.

Frame your interest around supply-chain risk and compliance resilience: due diligence programmes protect the business against reputational and regulatory exposure on human rights and environmental standards, and strong supplier assurance data reduces audit failures and retailer delisting risk. Build and cite fluency in SEDEX and SMETA scoring, BRCGS requirements and retailer-specific sustainability schemes (the advert names M&S) as your core credential for this track.
